Sigils - Hours Of The Wind

Press Quotes:

"Crafting sinister, tense, and abstract sonic arrangements out of thin air, Sigils shadowy sound contains a distinct and ricocheting IDM foundation that pays homage to classic dubstep and grime." XLR8R

"LA producer Felix Herrera explores the signals from the archaic, the magical, with the mystery of the occult in his music." IMPOSE

"Hours Of The Wind"
Rendering eerie, nocturnal soundscapes into rigid, half-time beat structures, Sigils’ ‘Hours Of The Wind’ is a spectral exploration of futuristic downtempo ideas harnessing glimpses of shadowy electronic menace. Channelling elements of classic IDM and early wave dubstep with stark, mysterious evolving ambience - LA based producer Sigils (aka Felix Herrera) exercises exquisite restraint in his stripped-down rhythms, slippery melodic motifs, and sustaining pads.

Hypnotically intensifying, the swell of opener “Lux Aeterna” cleanses the ear’s palate preparing the listener to embark on the immersive journey into the mystic 'Hours Of The Wind'. Driven by aqueous bass pulse, the slo-mo chug of “Helios” marches forth with big drums while teasing out darker synth-pop sounds. Resonant chords mingle with processed eastern percussion samples and ascending melancholic arpeggios on the serene “Luna”. The release’s creeping centerpiece “Ea” dives back into more foreboding territory with strangled synth melodies and samples evoking instrumental post-punk.

The recurring sonic theme of blurring the line between rhythmic and melodic elements presents itself most prominently in the upbeat, skittering digital forest of “Zodiac”. Pulling back the tension, the brooding “Icarus” layers minor-key chords ringing out over drum machines slowed down to a crawl before closing out the EP with the stoic, gorgeous beatless “Enoch”.
